About the book

If Gavin Mecklenburg thought his job of working on high voltage power lines in Seattle was risky, he was taking an even bigger chance for a disaster by messing around with his best friend’s new boyfriend.
Trina Yamagachi was what Gavin called a ‘serial engager’. She chewed men up and spit them out, breaking off relationships with men just before her wedding day.
Gavin met Trina one afternoon while buying a watch for himself at the jewelry store she worked for. He and beautiful Trina became best friends instantly. But when Gavin realizes that his new handsome neighbor- the one he has become infatuated with- is Toby Montgomery, Trina’s latest conquest, Gavin doesn’t know what to do.
As friendships are tested, and choices become harder, Gavin has to wonder if getting involved with his best friend’s boyfriend is more trouble than it’s worth.
Sometimes the rules of attraction and lust win and sometimes they make you lose, but in the end, it’s all about finding the one you love and being true to your heart.

An excerpt from the book

Timing in life was everything.
And his timing presently sucked.
If he had met Toby first, he could have easily found out if he was gay and available. Now that Trina had met him and started a relationship, Gavin was stuck.
If he were to place this decision on a scale—try to date Toby ‘if’ he is gay, or lose Trina if he did date him—there was no decision. He would not jeopardize his relationship with his best friend for a remote possibility of a date or two. Right? Isn’t that sensible? But what if Toby is the one?
Exhaling loudly at his dumb luck, Gavin grabbed his empty lunch bag and thermos, getting out of the low slung car. He shut the car door and straightened his back, seeing Toby exit the lobby door, smiling at him, looking like a model out of an International Male catalog.
Gavin’s heart stopped.
“So. We meet again.” Toby didn’t hesitate as he closed the gap between them.
Black, curve-hugging spandex bike shorts and a blue and white cycling jersey clung to Toby’s body like a second skin. Immediately Gavin’s gaze was drawn to the bulge between his legs. It wasn’t until Toby was right next to him that he met his smoldering brown eyes.
Toby tapped Gavin’s chest, saying, “Seattle Power Source? Yeah? You fix power lines?”
As if just coming out of a daydream from the sight of Toby’s unbelievably toned legs, narrow waist and large package, Gavin felt as if he was drunk. “Yeah. I’m a hot primary apprentice.”
“I’ll say.” Toby smiled. “But, uh, what does that mean?”
“Oh. Sorry. I’m a lineman. Power lineman. Apprentice lineman. I fix things.” I’m an idiot.
“You work on high power electrical lines?” Toby’s eyes widened as if he were impressed.
“Yes.” Gavin shifted his weight side to side, feeling nervous.
“Wow.” Toby took another look at Gavin’s body. It was so sultry it made Gavin’s throat dry up when he tried to swallow.
“You…uh…going riding?” Gavin pointed to Toby’s outfit, but ended up gesturing to Toby’s crotch.
“Yes. Would you ever consider a bike ride?”
“I should. But the work is so physical.” Gavin put his lunchbox and thermos on the car. “I do go to the gym a few times a week.”
“I’m a pencil pusher, or should I say, computer keyboard tapper.” Toby smiled, showing perfect teeth. “I need to make an effort to keep fit.” Toby’s attention moved to Gavin’s car. He smoothed his hand over the silver paint. “She’s a beauty. Did you restore it?”
“No. Just took great care of it.”
“Did you buy it new?”
“No. My dad did.” Gavin cleared his throat. He should be thinking about Trina, but at the moment he was thinking about how amazing Toby’s balls looked in black spandex.
“Yes. Duh.” Toby hit his forehead with the heel of his palm in a cliché gesture of sounding stupid. “If you bought it new you’d have to be in your mid to late forties.” Toby gave Gavin another once over. “And you’re not in your forties.”
“If we used that logic, you’d be in your sixties.”
“Sorry. I’m not usually this dumb.” Toby appeared to become distracted by Gavin’s biceps. He smoothed his hand over it and asked, “How much can you bench press?”
At the touch Gavin nearly swooned. His cock throbbed and he looked at Toby’s crotch out of reflex to see if he was interested as well. “Um…bench press? Uh…” Gavin watched the nicely shaped bulge in Toby’s pants grow larger. He had to shake himself out of his daydream and stop staring as the outline of Toby’s cock became visible.
“It wasn’t a trick question.” Toby laughed.
On the tip of Gavin’s tongue was Trina. Asking Toby about knowing Trina. But it didn’t materialize. Selfishly Gavin didn’t want to change the subject and didn’t it sound stakerish if he knew anything about Toby’s personal life? “Nearly three hundred pounds.”
“No!” Toby appeared suitably impressed.
“One time.” Gavin held up his index finger. “But I don’t work out that heavy.”
Toby ran his fingers across Gavin’s chest. “You have amazing pecs.”
Gay. No question whatsoever. What are you doing with my Trina? Bi? No. Oh no, not bi. Gavin didn’t even want to speculate what Toby’s motivation was with leading Trina on. If he was. Maybe Toby wanted to be friends with Trina, like he was.
“Are you out?” It seemed like a safe question for Gavin to ask. Now that Toby had made the advance and touched him rather intimately. Not to mention his raging hard-on—over six inches and cut, if Gavin had to guess. And he had to.
Gavin could see the distinct outline under the material and the urge to stroke his hand over it, the way Toby had done to his chest, was nearly irresistible.
“Yes.”
That puzzled Gavin. Toby wasn’t ‘out’ to Trina. “Out to everyone?”
“Yes. Why? Should I not be?” Toby crossed his arms, a defensive pose. “Am I embarrassing you?”
“No. I just…” Gavin kept hitting a wall in how to handle a very sticky situation. Why would Toby lie?
“I take it you’re not?”
“No. Not at work. All my friends know.”
“Ah, macho linemen? Really? I never would have guessed in this town.”
“Not like Corvallis, huh.”
The look on Toby’s face changed.
Gavin realizes his faux pas. Toby had told him he was from Oregon but not Corvallis.
As if trying to determine if he had told him, Toby asked, “Did I tell you that?”
Lying, Gavin said, “Yes. The other day by my deck.”
Toby tilted his head as he thought about it. “Oh. I can’t remember anything anymore.” He let it go and his smile returned.

Sharing Paul by Jade Archer

Sharing Paul – by Jade Archer

Blurb :

Book Three in the Portals Series

Three men when the world sees only two. One desire—to be loved and accepted. All they need is a miracle.

Paul and Joshua’s life has never been easy, or even easy to explain, but they’ve always had each other. Two distinct entities sharing the same body—the body of an escaped cat shifter slave rescued and brought to Earth as a child. They’re lifelong friends, lovers and soul mates. But Joshua is slowly dying—unable to sustain the psychic link that binds him to Paul. They desperately need a miracle. Unfortunately, miracles seem to be pretty thin on the ground these days.

Then one night they stumble on Matt as he’s being beaten by a group of thugs in a park. He’s human, he’s a mess and he sets off every protective, possessive instinct the pair have. Could rescuing Matt be the answer to their prayers, or just another complication in an already far too complicated existence?

Meanwhile, there are forces at work trying to sow seeds of confusion and decent. Forces that would eat away at all the cat shifters of the Bayside pride have worked so hard to gain.

Can Paul, Joshua and Matt discover their miracle before it’s too late?

Reader Advisory: This book is best read in sequence as part of a series

Excerpt :

Leaning back against the wall of the club, Paul cast his eyes across the now somewhat subdued club patrons milling around. A few die-hard stalwarts and the occasional lonesome loser were all that were left of the energetic Friday night party crowd this late in the evening. Or early in the morning as the case may be. And in less than an hour even they would be gone.

Rolling his shoulders to try to relieve some tension, Paul barely suppressed the urge to start moving restlessly from foot to foot. Now that he wasn’t occupied with fucked up rich pricks who assumed the world existed to kiss their asses, he found his mind wandering to thoughts of Joshua.

Joshua was resting at the moment, but something was very wrong. It had been for a long time now. Paul could feel Joshua’s fatigue and lethargy battering at him. It was driving him absolutely insane not being able to go and check to see if he was okay. Again. Right now. But he knew he couldn’t risk drawing attention to them by ‘dropping out’ of the real world. They’d worked too long and hard to fit in here as part of the pride. Well, as least to the extent they were ever likely to fit in anywhere. He wouldn’t go back to the bad old days when people stared at them and cubs were taught to avoid them because they acted weird sometimes.

So here he stood, in a dark, smelly bar, watching the drunks and deadbeats and counting the minutes until he could kick their asses out the door. The last sixty minutes of his shift could not go fast enough.

Glancing around, Paul noticed a few of the regulars edging away from him nervously and realised he was frowning. Again. Actually, it was pretty much a permanent feature these days. Joshua’s failing health was a constant worry—like a toothache that throbbed and demanded his attention day and night.

Paul rubbed absently at one of his aching temples before running his hand back through his short, platinum blond hair in frustration. Maintaining their psychic connection had always taken a lot out of Joshua—he was the one who bore the brunt of the psychic drain it required. But he seemed perpetually exhausted at the moment, often listless and lethargic, and needed more and longer rest periods all the time. He was growing steadily weaker by the day.

Damn it all to hell! He knew Joshua was in trouble. What he didn’t know was what to do about it. Worse still, he wasn’t sure how much longer the man he loved could go on like this before he just could not maintain the link between them at all.

A cold shiver of dread crept down Paul’s spine and wrapped its icy fingers around his heart. If that thin thread that bound them together so intimately should ever break…well, without that he wasn’t sure either of them would survive.

Distracted by his concerns, Paul jumped when Luke—another cat shifter assigned to security at the club—slapped him hard on the shoulder.

“Hey, buddy!” Luke smiled broadly, obviously enjoying catching Paul off guard. “Nate asked me to come over and see if you wanted to finish up. Actually, you do kinda look like you could use an early mark. Something wrong?”

“No. Nothing’s wrong,” Paul replied automatically.

He wondered how long he’d been standing in the corner, staring off into space with a scowl on his face. As he looked over at Nate, registering the concern on his friend’s face and no sign of the little twink from earlier anywhere, he got the feeling it had been a while. So much for not drawing attention to himself.

“Actually, I wouldn’t mind knocking off early. I haven’t been sleeping all that well lately.”

That much at least was true—he was too worried about Joshua.

“Yeah, well, you should try keeping up with those littermates of mine. I tell you, David and Trent get stupider by the second. Can you believe I had to go get their dumb asses out of jail last night? I swear Mum’s going to pitch a fit when she finds out. And you know who she’s going to want to blame, don’t you? Just ‘cause I’m the oldest. You don’t know how lucky you are being an only child in your litter, man,” Luke grumbled.

Paul had heard of a species of turtle that could breathe through its ass and wondered if Luke had somehow managed to score some of its DNA in his make-up. It was really quite amazing the way the man never seemed to run out of air once he started his longwinded bitch sessions about his brothers. Perhaps he was just naturally gifted. Either way, Paul didn’t respond to Luke’s comments. He wasn’t sure anything he had to say would be appreciated anyway. Luke didn’t know how incredibly blessed he was to have healthy, rambunctious siblings to mess up his life.

Paul walked away before he could say anything he would undoubtedly regret later on. There really wasn’t any point anyway. No one would ever understand about Joshua. No one ever could.

“Well, see you around,” Luke called after him—a sharp, acidic edge to his voice.

No doubt the other cat shifters in the club would be talking about him before he reached the top of the stairs. Paul found he really didn’t give a shit. He had more important things to worry about. Like whether or not his soulmate was going to survive to the end of the day.

Author’s Bio:

Jade was born in 2010 after a prolonged pregnancy and labour of over thirty-four years!

Yes, she is a pseudonym. A work of my fevered imagination, which never seems to grow tired of inventing new characters. And this one's a whopper. One that seems to have taken over my life to the point I'm no longer sure where she ends and I begin! Still, it seems to be working for us.

I’ve decided she’s about twenty-four. Enjoys long walks in the country, because she doesn’t have five kids and a husband to care for. Eats as much chocolate as she wants, because she never has to worry about putting on weight (must be all those long walks!). And can often be found planning her next whirl wind world tour or endlessly typing away (without any interruptions) on another hot and steamy erotic romance. It might be space pirates; it might be shifters or a lonely vampire with a thing for the girl next door, one thing’s for sure, she loves variety and can’t wait to meet the next characters destined to fall in love.

STORY EXCERPT

Brandon opened his eyes slowly, blinking several times due to the bright lights in the ceiling. It made his eyes hurt. It was way too intense. When his eyes adjusted, Brandon scooted up and looked around.

Once again Brandon seemed to be surrounded by white. He sat on a thin mattress on the floor covered by a white sheet. Even the scrub like clothes on his body were white. Brandon was really starting to hate the color white.

He climbed to his feet, leaning his hand against the wall when the room began to spin. He stood still for a moment while he tried to get his baring then crossed over to the door. He wasn't surprised to find it locked.

Brandon wasn't sure anything would surprise him, not after his promotion. While things were a bit fuzzy, he still remembered every little pinprick of a needle, every insidious procedure done to his body. And he was pissed.

Brandon looked through the small wire mesh window. He could see a small hallway, and again, white walls, but from his vantage point he couldn't see anything else. There were no people, no doors, no windows, nothing.

"Hey! Let me out of here!" he shouted as he balled up his fists and banged on the door. "Let me out! This is kidnapping, damn it."

Brandon banged some more. He slammed his fists on the door until they started to hurt. Slumping against the wall, Brandon slid down to the floor. He dropped his head into his hands trying to figure out how in the hell he'd gotten into this predicament.

A sudden sharp pain shot through Brandon's head. He cried out and gripped his head tighter between his hands. It didn't help. The pain just got worse, bigger, until he felt it throughout his entire body.

Brandon felt like he was being skinned alive. His skin burned, ached. The muscles in his arms and legs contracted. It felt like the biggest muscle seizure he ever experienced. It started at the top of his body and shot right down to the arches of his feet.

As suddenly as the pain came, it left. Brandon sat there, the breath entering and leaving his lungs in great gulps of air. The aches in his body slowly faded away, the spots before his eyes clearing.

Brandon leaned his head back against the wall. His heart hammered in his chest. The pace slowed but it was hard for Brandon to catch his breath. His chest ached and felt restricted, like someone sat on him.

After a few minutes, Brandon rolled to his hands and knees, ready to push himself to his feet when he heard a beep and the door opened, admitting the man in the white coat from before and another armed guard.

"Ah, Mr. Thomas," the doctor said, "you're awake. Very good."

Brandon scooted back on his hands and feet as the doctor advanced on him. He hit another wall, jerking when the armed guard reached for him. Brandon was pulled to his feet and escorted by his arms over to the bed then forced to sit down. Before he could get up or protest, the doctor stood over him taking his pulse.

Dr. Carson shined a bright light in his eyes. Brandon blinked several times, large spots appearing in his eyes again. Brandon slapped out with his hands trying to push the doctor away. The guard was instantly there, grabbing him by the wrists, twisting his arms behind his back.

"Now, now, Mr. Thomas," Dr. Carson admonished, "we both know what happened the last time you were combative. Do I need to give you another sedative?"

Brandon shook his head. "Why are you doing this to me? This is kidnapping."

"Tsk, tsk, tsk, Mr. Thomas," the doctor replied as he shook his head. "You apparently didn't read the fine print in your employment contract."

"I didn't sign up to be a pin cushion," Brandon snapped. "I'm an orderly."

"You are an employee of Gervais Institute of Study, Mr. Thomas."

And that meant what exactly?

"As such, you are subject to the rules and regulations of this institute which state that you must voluntarily submit to examination and transfer of duties at any time."

"I didn't volunteer for shit."

"Ah, but you did, my dear boy, when you signed your employment contract." Dr. Carson patted Brandon's arm then reached into his pocket to pull out a syringe filled with red liquid. He pulled the cap off and squirted a bit into the air.

Brandon started to struggle when the doctor nodded to the two guards. They flipped him over and held him down to the small bed, one of the men jerking Brandon's pants down and off his legs. His shirt was just as quickly pulled off.

A moment later Brandon cried out and went stiff as he felt the needle sink into the soft flesh of one butt cheek. Intense pain followed the injection of the liquid in the syringe. Brandon didn't know what it was but he could feel it burning through his body like acid. It made him feel achy, needy, hot.

He inhaled sharply as hot lava started flowing through his body. The guards holding Brandon down let him go and stepped toward the door. He quickly rolled over and glared at the doctor. "Wha -- what did you do to me?" he panted.

"I've given you a wonderful serum I constructed, something to insure your compliance." The sinister grin on the doctor's face almost looked like the man was proud of what he created.

"Compliance with what?"

"We're conducting a little experiment here, my dear Brandon," the doctor said, "and the genetic anomaly in your DNA has just made you a major subject in that experiment."

"What experiment?" Brandon cried out. "What anomaly?" He really didn't like the smirk that covered the doctor's face. It sent a cold shiver up his back and made the hairs on his arm stand up.

"Ah, but see, you did volunteer. When you were examined for your position as orderly, you voluntarily gave us a sample of your blood and we discovered that you have a genetic anomaly that makes you unique in the human population."

Human population? Brandon suddenly knew the doctor was not playing with a full deck. He was nuts. He scooted back onto the bed and held his hands up. "Hey look, I don't know what you're into here but I want none of it."

"I'm afraid that is impossible, Brandon, we have established that your DNA is compatible with one of our test subject. Since only one percent of the world's human population has compatible DNA, we need you for this experiment. Now, I don't want you to worry, we've learned a lot from past experiments and have taken actions to insure a successful union."

"A successful union?" Brandon's eyes widened. "What did you do to me?" he hissed.

The doctor held up the syringe in his hand, the empty syringe. "I simply combined our test subject's blood with another one of my serums and gave it to you. That should enable us to get the results we need."

Brandon started to jump to his feet and protest but his legs crumbled beneath him and he crashed to the floor. He barely caught himself before his head hit the cold tile. He felt weak, unable to push himself up. The room around him began to spin.

The doctor's chuckle was cold and sterile. "Your body is no longer your own, Brandon. It now belongs to the institute until we no longer have use of you."

ADULT EXCERPT

Every nerve in his body felt like it was on fire. He could feel the cool air from the vent on the wall brushing across his skin, each systematic, mechanical motion like a tongue licking at his naked skin.

Brandon clenched his fists and screamed out his frustration. The sound bounced off the walls and echoed in the nearly empty room. There didn't seem to be much more he could do. Lifting his arms took effort.

When the door opened and a dark figure crept into the room, it was all Brandon could do to turn his head and look. Brandon had just enough time to take in a rather tall figure dressed in a dark suit before the lights flashed off and the room plunged into total darkness.

He tried to push himself away when the man reached for him, panic overcoming his shock at the man's sudden appearance. His body just wouldn't cooperate. Brandon whimpered in fear as the man picked him up. His head rolled against a strong chest and the pure masculine scent of the man filled his senses.

"Ssshhh, mo shíorghrá, I have you," the man whispered.

"Wha -- who--"

"No talking," the man said quietly "I'm here to get you out of this mess. If they hear us, they might catch us. I need you to be very quiet."

Brandon cried out at the touch of the man's hands on his hot skin. He clutched at the man's shoulders as he arched into his body, needing more contact. "Touch me!"

"Oh, mo shíorghrá, I can't," the man whispered. "You've been given something that makes you feel this way. I can't--"

"Please!" Brandon cried desperately. "I hurt."

The deep blue eyes staring down at Brandon seemed to waver for a moment. Brandon almost cried out again but then the man nodded and laid Brandon back down on the bed, following down to lay next to Brandon.

Strong callused hands skimmed over Brandon's body. His skin tingled as the heat in his body flamed. When strong firm fingers finally wrapped around his throbbing cock, Brandon nearly screamed in relief.

But that feeling was fast fleeting as the man began to stroke his heated shaft. The faster the hand wrapped around him moved, the more aroused Brandon became. He could feel the very air in the room move across his skin.

Brandon humped his hips trying to speed up the stimulation to his body. He could feel himself titter on the edge of a momentous orgasm. He just couldn't seem to fall over the edge. The faster he was stroked, the more he needed until Brandon felt tears fall from the corners of his eyes.

"I can't -- I can't--" Brandon just knew he was going to die if something didn’t happen soon. His balls had drawn up so tight to his body they felt like rocks. His cock was becoming too sensitive. Brandon clutched at the man's shirt and pleaded. "Please, help me. I can't--"

The man's azure blue eyes closed for a moment and he seemed to draw in a deep breath. When they opened, Brandon detected a hint of sadness in their depths. He didn't understand it.

"Okay, mo shíorghrá." There was a resigned tone to the man's voice that hadn't been there before. Brandon started to wonder about it until the man rolled to the side of the bed and started unzipping his slacks.

The hard cock revealed to Brandon's hungry gaze made him lick his lips as lust spiraled through his body. Brandon's breath caught in his throat. The man was beautiful, stunning, an Adonis.

"Sexy man," Brandon whispered as he reached out for the hottest looking man he'd ever seen in his life. He whined in protest when he was rolled to his stomach until he felt strong hands grip his hips and pull him to the edge of the bed.

Brandon eagerly spread his legs, impatient for what he hoped was coming. He'd seen the cock this man sported. He wanted it, he needed to feel it pounding into his ass. Brandon was pretty sure his life depended on it, and not because of some fucked up serum some lunatic doctor gave him.

As a lubed finger breached his ass, Brandon had just a moment to wonder where the lube had come from before the pleasure of being impaled overwhelmed him. Brandon started moaning, pushing back with his hips.

"More, please, more!"

Another finger was added, then another. The more he was touched, the more pleasure Brandon felt. Even the slight burn of having three fingers in his ass only added to the exquisite sensations bombarding Brandon.

When the fingers pulled out of his ass, Brandon started to sit up and protest only to have a hand push against the middle of his back, forcing him down onto the mattress. A moment later, Brandon felt his legs get pushed further apart.

"Are you sure, mo shíorghrá?" a voice whispered into the dark.

"Yes!"

"I'm sorry, Brandon."

Brandon opened his mouth to ask what those words meant but the breath was stolen from his throat by the quick thrust of a cock in his ass. Brandon felt each movement, no matter how small. They fit together so perfectly, he was pretty sure he could feel the man behind him breathing.

Brandon pushed a pillow under his stomach and buried his face in his arms. He pushed back with his hips. There was a very distant part of him that was shocked that he was allowing… no, begging, some stranger to fuck him. It was quickly overshadowed by the intense pleasure that shot through his body when the man started to move. Brandon wasn't sure he'd ever felt anything so good in his life.

His wasn't a virgin by any stretch of the imagination but he wasn't a slut either. He'd had his share of relationships and one night stands. Nothing in his entire sexual experience prepared him for the feelings this man produced in him.

Brandon's entire body quaked as the man pounded into him. Each thrust pushed him forward on the bed, driving his cock into the pillow bunched beneath him. Each withdraw of the man's cock pulled him back, dragging Brandon's cock back against the soft material. It was just enough sensation to drive Brandon out of his mind.

The heat in Brandon's body built until an inferno blazed inside of him. He knew he was going to combust at any moment. Just when Brandon thought he couldn't take anymore, a hand grabbed a handful of his hair and pulled his head back.

Brandon turned his head a bit, just able to see a strong chiseled jaw out of the corner of his eye. Deep azure blue eyes blazed at him, almost glowing in the darkness of the room.

"Give me your life, your love, your forever, as I give you mine,” the man said sternly. "Repeat them to me, mo shíorghrá."

Brandon blinked, confused, until the man gave him a little shake. "Brandon, you must repeat the words."

"Give me your life, your love, your forever, as I give you mine,” Brandon said. He started to turn his head more, wanting to question the man when he suddenly felt an aching pain in the back of his neck.

Brandon cried out. The pain intensified until it almost engulfed Brandon. Then, as fast as the pain came, it was gone, replaced by pleasure so intense, Brandon came close to blacking out.

Brandon gritted his teeth to keep from screaming as his entire body exploded. Wave after wave of ecstasy flowed through his body as he erupted all over the pillow beneath him.

EXCERPT:

It was amazing that the body could still move while the heart was shattering into millions of microscopic pieces. Luc Hellbourne kicked the empty soda can on the street, idly watching it tumble across the asphalt.
All other sensations dimmed next to the pain in his chest.
A bitter laugh burst past his lips.
Homeless.
Why in his father’s hell did he ever start a relationship with an alpha werewolf? It wasn’t as if he didn’t know the man wanted to have a successor, yearned to have children of his own.
It was for the best. He gave another sad laugh at his new mantra, whispered it to the breeze, stomped it out with each step, desperately trying to believe his own words.
He didn’t know which hurt worse, losing his lover to a woman, or losing the comfort and caring of the pack. Cutting himself away from his pack friends after twenty years of belonging ripped away a huge chunk of his soul.
Remembering the love in Betsy’s eyes when she claimed Bran as her own eased a small portion of Luc’s frozen heart. However, during the mating ceremony, Bran had looked away from his new wife and the longing in his expression as he watched Luc, hit him as if he were struck by a body blow.
He knew in that moment that the werewolf would never accept his fate as long as Luc was near. It wasn’t fair to the pack to have a conflicted alpha. One of them had to leave.
The one who wasn’t pack.
“Get it together.” Tears prickling his eyes, Luc continued his determined march to nowhere.
His guitar case banged painfully against his side as he walked, all the hard edges finding his most sensitive places. He ignored it with the same indifference he coated over his soul to keep moving. His guitar was custom made by his uncle, one of his most prized possessions, and the only thing he’d grabbed on the way out. The rest of his things he’d shoved through a portal to his childhood bedroom. He’d retrieve them when he found a place to stay.
A quick glance around proved he was in unfamiliar territory. An area of town never visited, at least not in recent memory, but then he’d never travelled around the city without companions before. Loneliness formed a hard knot in his stomach.
This was a day for new things.
So far, none of them had been good.
Loud, pounding music caught his attention. It thrummed through his body like a moving heartbeat. As a half fae, Luc felt the notes deep in his soul. Matching his steps to the beat, he turned the corner seeking the source of the sound. A music club stood before him, pulsing notes sliding through the doors each time the bouncers opened them.
The club’s ridiculously overdone stone façade had grinning gargoyles carved over the corners. Words written in bright red paint to resemble dripping blood proclaimed this building The River Styx.
Luc had visited, played around and once damn near drowned in the River Styx as a child, and this wasn’t it. The river that granted immunity from death never had a line of goth kids wrapped around the block and there wasn’t one creepy ferryman in sight.
Tempted, Luc decided now was the time to slack his thirst. He hadn’t had a drink in hours. His stomach rolled queasily at the memory of the wedding champagne.
Decision made, he walked straight up the stairs towards the bouncers guarding the door.
“Good evening, gentlemen.”
Damn, the men were impossibly big close up. Luc liked a large man. He let his eyes roam up and down them both. There was the off chance he’d get the crap beat out of him, but he knew how to run if things went badly.
“Good evening,” they replied in unison. The man on the left gave him a small smile, while the one on the right looked at him as if he were a chocoholic finding the world’s last chocolate truffle.
He flashed them both his best smile. “I’d like to go into your fine establishment, what’s the cover charge?”
It didn’t occur to him to stand in line. People who looked like him weren’t meant for lines. It wasn’t vanity. It was a fact. He was a perfect creation by the devil himself and blessed by thirty-six gods and goddesses. There was only one creature as perfectly formed as him.
And father was scary as fuck so he didn’t count.
“No cost for you, sweetheart,” the bouncer on the left announced with a hitch in his voice as the other one nodded mutely.
Flashing another smile, Luc let the man open the door for him.
As he passed he saw the bouncers sniffing at him.
Weird.
He shrugged before banishing the event out of his mind. Having lived with werewolves, he was used to sniffing, but these couldn’t be weres. Bran would never let another pack in his territory.

EXCERPT:

With the windows rolled down, Anthony sat in the back of the limousine drinking one hundred year old scotch. Only on full moons did he pull out the hard liquor. Holding back his tears, he poured himself another shot as he listened to the howl of the wolves. The mystical sound always brought tears to his eyes. He blinked them back. Anthony had to hide his misery from his lover, Silver, knowing his sorrow would upset his handsome mate. However every full moon the truth slapped him in the face.

He could never be a true alpha mate.

As much as the pack welcomed him, he could never run with the wolves or hunt with the pack. His biological differences separated him from the werekin, separated him from his love. Any moment now Silver would return with a wide smile and glowing eyes, and with the full moon magic racing through his lover’s veins like a potent drug, they would fuck like wild animals. Even with his mate’s unswerving devotion, this time every month a weight pressed down on Anthony’s heart. His inner voice whispering, “Silver will be better off without me.” Unfortunately, werewolves only mate once. If Anthony left him, Silver wouldn’t move on to find himself a nice wolfy companion. The harsh reality of werewolf mating was, without Anthony, Silver would either kill himself or turn so feral the pack would have to hunt him down and slaughter him. To prevent his lover from an untimely death, Anthony would sacrifice anything even if it meant dying a little inside during every full moon hunt.

The divider between the driver and the passenger slid down and Farro’s worried eyes examined him in the rear view mirror.

Farro waved his hand towards Anthony and his half empty glass. “How long are you going to do this?”

“As many times as he asks me to come.” Anthony didn’t have it in him to deny his lover anything he could provide.

“Does he know it kills you to hear the wolves? To never truly be part of our world?”

Anthony shrugged. It didn’t matter. He would always be there for his lover despite his inability to shift. Some problems didn’t have fairy tale solutions.

“I support my mate.”

Farro shot him a look bordering the fine line between pity and disgust. “You know if you weren’t true mates he would be better off without you. You cripple him before the other wolf packs.”

Hearing the truth in Farro’s words, sliced through Anthony like a fine blade. “But I am his true mate so he’ll just have to deal,” he took another swig of liquor, relishing the burn, “as will you.”

Farro rolled the divider back up without another word.

When the phone rang about nine-fifteen, she considered not answering it. But checking the readout, she saw it was Jake.

Her stomach shivered. She couldn’t help but grin as she flipped the phone open. “Hello?” she said, trying to sound sexy.

“What are you wearing?” he asked with a chuckle.

She responded with a giggling laugh before stopping herself.

Giggle? Her? She was forty-eight years old, and had not giggled in years. What was it about this man that made her feel fifteen again with her first crush?

“Nothing sexy, if that’s what you’re thinking,” she responded before going on to describe her multiple layers.

“Mmm, sounds like you’re nice and toasty. Are you warm enough?”

“Yes, I’m quite warm, thank you,” she responded with another giggle. “And you?”

“Getting warmer by the minute.”

After a while of rambling talk, Jake asked, “Are you nice and relaxed now?”

“Not really,” Sera admitted. “I’m not sure I know how to relax.”

“Well, we’ll have to do something about that, won’t we?” Jake said, his voice dropping an octave and growing soft and dark. The timber sent a warm shiver through Sera.

“We will?” she asked. All at once she felt a little breathless.

“Yeah, we will,” he said. “We’re gonna relax your bones.”

“Really?”

“Yes, we are. Now just settle back, relax, and close your eyes while I find a little privacy.”

In her ear she heard a door snick closed and then what sounded like the squeak of an office chair.

“How you doing?” he asked.

“I’m settled, but I’m not sure how relaxed I am.”

“Don’t worry, baby. I’ll take good care of you.”

Taking slow, deep breaths, she focused on the man on the other end of the phone and the visions his words painted. His vivid imagination and deep, dark, sexy voice set her on fire.

Her contributions to the murmured conversation seemed to add fuel to his arousal as well. As he spoke, her hands became his as they wormed their way beneath layers of cloth to draw circles over her breasts. She tweaked her own nipples and smoothed her fingers down her body to her aching mound.

When she took over and spoke of what she would do to him, she heard his breath catch more than once, which only made her want to be more imaginative in this verbal loving they shared.

Blurb

His gaze ripped away from the sign when three dark-haired men, wearing nothing more than silver loincloths and strategic tattoos, slinked by. Oiled muscles, shimmering with power, flexed as they prowled across the airport giving flashes of muscular butt cheeks with every step.

“Fuck me,” Jory whispered, watching the fine specimens walk by.

Visions of lying in bed with three gorgeous studs flashed through his head in brilliant detail. The second man in the trio turned and licked his lips in Jory’s direction, crooking his finger towards him.

“Oh, hell yes!”

Jory looked behind him to see if the man beckoned towards someone else.

He smiled when he saw no one stood behind him. Well he didn’t need an engraved invitation and father did say he should explore his place in the universe. What better way than with three gorgeous men? He could imagine a lot of exploring, at least inside the bedroom.

He only made it one step before a motion to his left caught his eye. A man sat at a table by the walkway sipping something blue out of a crystal glass. Deep black hair, strong muscular body, Jory couldn’t see the color of the man’s eyes from where he stood, but that didn’t matter, he was absolutely captivated.

“Mmm.”

Maybe Peter was right.

He was a fickle bastard.

Of course that was still no reason to burn all his beautiful clothing in a bonfire, in the middle of his bedroom.

Fucker.

Moisture pooled in Jory’s mouth as he checked out the handsome stranger. Long, long legs stretched out under the table into the empty space across from him. His muscular thighs were faithfully outlined by skin hugging brown leather pants, while a tight white shirt gave mouth-watering testimony to a fine set of muscles. The man’s hair was deep black, trimmed short, but still long enough to get a proper grip in a moment of passion. His fingers twitched with plans of sinking into that lush landscape while the other man sank into him.

A power stronger than Jory felt able to resist, pulled him towards the other man.

Everything else faded as he walked forward and Jory didn’t stop until he was standing above tall, dark and soon-to-be-his.

“Good afternoon.”
