Wolf's Sacrifice by Draven St. James

Blurb
Sean Maddox has one basic goal: to protect the Northwest Pack. That priority helps him stay grounded—until the day the pack rescues Liam. Suddenly Sean is finding any excuse to be around the sweet, blind shifter. But trying to focus his thoughts on keeping Liam safe and not exploring the whole laundry list of carnal fantasies he's been having is anything but grounding. It doesn't help that Sean's wolf makes it damn clear it believes Liam belongs to him.

From the first deep breath of Sean Maddox's intoxicating scent, all Liam wants to do is strip naked for the sexy beta and let the wolf claim him. Hiding away his desires seems like the best plan, given after a lifetime in captivity Liam is just learning what it means to be free. What does he know about being a mate? More to the point, would Sean even want him if he knew the truth?

As Sean and Liam struggle with their growing craving for each other an old enemy steps out of the shadows. With secrets lurking and fate twisting two worlds together a sacrifice must be made, but can the two mates live with the consequences?

Excerpt

“You don’t have to stay here with me,” Liam murmured.
Sean twisted the cap off Liam’s root beer and pressed the condensation-slick bottle to Liam’s hand until his slender fingers curled around it.
“I know,” he responded, studying a drop of moisture slipping off the bottle to make a damp trail along Liam’s hand.
“Guarding me?” After propping the bottle between his thighs, Liam licked the drop that had traveled to the pulsing blue vein of his wrist.
“I can be around you without being part of your protective detail.” Sean swallowed past his suddenly parched throat. The man had no idea how seductive his innocent movements were.
Liam reached out until his hand was on Sean’s thigh. “Just giving you a hard time.”
You have no idea.
His cock perked up and took interest in Liam’s hand being so near. If Liam had any clue how much Sean was drawn to him, the man would probably run full speed in the other direction, no matter how many twigs he tripped over. All Sean’s wolf wanted to do was rub against Liam and put as much of his scent as possible on the man.

HAPPY’S EVER AFTER by Stormy Glenn

HAPPY’S EVER AFTER
Cade Creek 1
Happy O’Brian spent the better part of his life isolated from the rest of the world. He was told he was evil down to his soul. It was physically beat into him on a daily basis. He lived with it, believing that his ultra conservative religious grandparents were right until the day his mother was attacked. Seeking help changed Happy’s life in ways he could never imagine and showed him a world he didn’t know existed.
Answering a disturbance call, Deputy Marc Walker meets a man that shocks him with his gentleness. When he discovers Happy’s true nature, Marc wants to know everything about the man. He wants to show him the world.
When the past rears its head, and their lives are put in danger, Happy tries to do the right thing and distance himself from his handsome deputy. But Marc has other plans for his gentle giant and he’s not going to let a little thing like getting shot or having escaped prisoners gunning for them interfere with those plans. Happy will get his happy ever after.
STORY EXCERPT
“Deputy Walker, we have a report of a disturbance down at the feed and seed. Gus says there’s a bunch of hoodlums harassing one of his employees out in front of the store.”
Deputy Marc Walker rolled his eyes. “I’m on it, Agnes.” He put his truck into gear and pulled out on to the street, heading through town to the local feed and seed store.  It was more than likely a couple of teenage boys hollering at girls or something.
Considering the small size of the town of Cade Creek, it didn’t take Marc more than few minutes to get across town. When he pulled up in front of Fletcher’s Feed and Seed he discovered that the disturbance was a little bigger than just a couple of teenagers fooling around.
Marc slammed his truck into park and jumped out, running up to the fight happening in the street in front of the store. “That’s quite enough!” he shouted as he pulled Jeff Murkily and his brother Brad off of another man. He stepped between the three men, pushing them apart. “Enough!”
“He started it!” Jeff said right away, pointing to the other man.
Marc’s mouth dropped as he looked at the other man, and realized he was looking at the man’s chest. He had to raise his eyes up several inches to see his face.
Damn.
“What happened here?”
“We were just minding our own business when this meathead came up and started shouting at us,” Jeff said. “When we told him to leave us alone, he started throwing punches.”
“We were just defending ourselves,” Brad insisted.
Marc turned to look back at the biggest damn man he had ever seen outside of a wrestling event. “What do you have to say?”
The man’s lips thinned as he pressed them together but that was his only response. Marc wasn’t even sure he blinked.
“See?” Jeff said. “He knows he was in the wrong.”
“Is this true, sir?” Marc asked. “Did you start the fight?” Marc wanted to grind his teeth together when the massive man just stood there. “Sir, you need to answer me.”
Jeff laughed snidely. “Maybe he doesn’t hear you, deputy. Maybe he’s one of those—”
Marc pointed a finger at Jeff. “Say it and I’ll lock you up for the next month.” He hated bigots.
“You can’t do that!” Jeff’s eyes blazed. “I didn’t do anything.”
Marc leveled a stare at Jeff. He had known the man since high school and he was nothing but a bully, one of the reasons Marc hadn’t automatically believed him when he arrived on the scene. Jeff had been a bully in high school and he was still a bully.
“Try me.”
“Just wait until the sheriff hears about this.” Jeff’s face flushed red as his voice rose. “I’ll bet he’d be real interested to hear his new deputy is threatening to lock people up for defending themselves.”
“I heard it,” said a deep voice from behind Marc. “And I agree.”
Jeff grinned as if he had won that argument.
“Say one word out of place and I’ll lock you up for a month.”
Jeff’s jaw dropped. “You can’t do that.”
Sheriff John Riley’s grin was even bigger than Jeff’s had been. The man crossed his arms over his chest and stared at Jeff with an expression hat dared the man to argue with him. “Try me.”
Jeff sputtered for a moment then fell silent.
“What seems to be the problem here?” John asked as he turned his attention to Marc.
“I’m still trying to figure that out, sheriff,” Marc replied. “Jeff and Brad say that this man attacked them and that they were merely defending themselves.”
“Is that true, Happy?”
“No, sir,” came the quiet reply.
Marc’s eyebrows shot up. He wasn’t sure if it was from hearing the man speak or hearing his name. Or from the fact that the eyes that finally rose up enough so he could see them were the most stunning blue eyes he had ever seen in his life. It was like looking into someone’s soul.
“Tell me what happened, Happy,” John directed.
“I was sweeping the sidewalk just like Mr. Gus told me to and then these two came and started kicking dirt up on it.” A wrinkled frown worked its way across the large man’s forehead. “I didn’t hit anyone, Sheriff.”
“He didn’t, sheriff.”
Marc glanced up to see Gus Fletcher standing in the doorway of his shop with a couple of customers.
“Jeff and Brad started the whole mess. When Happy ignored them, they got pissed and started shouting at him. That’s about the time I called the station. Happy just held his arms up in front of his face.”
“Mama gets mad when they hit me in the face.”
Marc felt a growl burn deep in the pit of his stomach. “This has happened to you before?”
Happy shrugged.
“As I’m sure you can understand, Happy has had a few problems due to his size,” John said. “People tend to either be intimidated by him.” John waved his hand toward Jeff and Brad. “Or they think they need to fight him to prove themselves.”
Marc could see where that could be an issue. He stood at six foot two inches tall, not a short man. Happy stood at least half a foot taller than him, and a good hundred pounds heavier. The man was simply massive.
“Do you want me to lock them up?”
“No, but we’re not going to have any more trouble, are we boys?” John cocked his eyebrow at the two men. “Because if we do, not only will I be going to have a talk with your pa, but I’ll be locking you two up for a good long while.”
“Now, look here, sheriff—” Jeff began.
“Do we need to take this down to the station, Jeff?”
“You can’t do this!”
Marc was waiting for the man to stomp his foot.
“Shut up, Jeff,” Brad said as he started pushing his brother toward the other side of the street. “You want him to call pa down here?”
“Fine!” Jeff shouted. “But this isn’t over.”
“It had better be,” John said, “or you and I are going to have a serious difference of opinion.”
Marc stood with his boss and watched Jeff and Brad climb into their pickup and then spin their tires as they took off down the street. “You want me to follow them and give them a ticket for speeding through town?”
“No.” John chuckled as he turned toward the feed and seed store again. “I’ll give their father a call later and let him know those two are up to no good again.”
Marc nodded even as his eyes strayed back to Happy. He was intrigued by the unusual manner in which the man was watching him. It was almost shy in nature as if he wanted to look but was afraid to get caught. It wasn’t something he could have expected from such a large, intimidating man.
“Happy, how’s your mother?” John asked.
Marc inhaled sharply when a smile spread across Happy’s face. It changed the man’s whole demeanor. Marc suddenly realized that he was dealing with a gentle giant. He doubted Happy had a mean bone in his entire body.

ADULT EXCERPT
Happy worried the corner of his lower between his teeth. “You really think I could learn this stuff?”
The corner of Marc’s mouth curved up. “I do.” There was pure confidence in that response, enough that Happy started to believe Marc’s words might be true.
He leaned his head down and pressed his forehead against Marc’s. “Thank you.”
The other side of Marc’s mouth curved up, the man grinning. “Any time, Happy.”
Happy started to move back when he realized he stood between Marc’s legs, his groin pressing against Marc, and the man was hard. Happy licked his suddenly dry lips as his eyes dropped.
Oh man.
When his eyes flickered back up to Marc, the man was watching him with hooded eyes. Something burned in their blue murky depths that Happy was unfamiliar with, but he sure wanted to know what it meant.
“I’m going to kiss you, Happy.” Marc’s hand curved around the back of Happy’s neck, pulling him closer. “If you don’t want me to, say something now.”
Happy pressed his lips together, refusing to say anything. He wanted to be kissed. He dreamed of being kissed. But only by Marc. He didn’t really want anyone else kissing him. Well, maybe his mama but not like he wanted Marc to kiss him because that would just be icky.
Marc started to lean closer, paused and let out a small chuckle and then closed the rest of the distance between them. Happy wasn’t sure what to expect when Marc’s lips brushed against his. He had been kissed before, but only by his mother, and then only on the forehead or the cheek.
This was nothing like that.
This made Happy’s toes curl and his body start to sing. He groaned and leaned closer, wanting whatever Marc offered him. There was a burning lust in his eyes that left Happy speechless.
The hand Marc had wrapped around the back of his neck tightened and pulled him closer as Marc’s tongue slid over his lips. Happy’s body tended with need when he felt Marc’s other hand grab his hip then slide around to the small of his back.
Happy’s lungs burned for oxygen but he refused to pull away. He opened his mouth when Marc’s tongue pressed against the seam between his lips, the man’s tongue plunging in, sweeping and exploring.
Happy grabbed Marc’s hips when his head began to spin. He started to move, thrusting his aching dick against the apex of Marc’s thighs. Marc pulled Happy closer, grinding against him as their tongues dueled. He lightly bit Happy's bottom lip. Happy gasped, returning the careful nip.
Marc consumed him with one kiss that seemed to go on forever. Happy didn't want it to stop. Marc’s tongue flickered over Happy’s lip, teasing, tantalizing.  He murmured Happy’s name, sending Happy into a wild craze.
He began to thrust against Marc in earnest, feeling his hard cock sliding against Marc’s over and over again, the only thing between them was the thinness of their pants. His thigh muscles quivered, his legs threatening to give out as his balls drew so tight to Happy’s body that they actually hurt.
Happy cried out as his back arched, hot jets of seed ripped from his balls and filling his jeans. White lights exploded behind his eyelids, stealing his breath. Happy gasped for air, unsure of what exactly had just happened. He glanced at Marc.
Marc’s blue eyes dominated his face as he stared at Happy. “Did you just come?”

STORY EXCERPT
A Christmas wish…
May you never forget what is worth remembering,
Or remember what is best forgotten.
~ Irish Proverb ~

“That’s the last of them.”
Alani Blaecleah turned to see her husband setting another green rubber tub down on the hardwood floor of the living room. She chuckled softly when Da grunted and rubbed his lower back with his hands as he stood.
“You’ll live, old man.”
“Not if I keep lugging your holiday boxes around, I won’t.”
Miffed, Ma planted her hands on her hips and sent her husband her best don’t make fun of me glare. “Now, you know it wouldn’t be Christmas without all my decorations, Donnell Blaecleah.”
“Woman, I’ve been married to you for almost forty years. You could make Christmas happen with a shoebox and a ball of twine, and have.” Da waved his hands toward the stack of tubs that held all of the Christmas decorations Ma had collected over the years. “You don’t need all this fancy stuff to make a holiday.”
Ma smiled despite Da’s flustering. “They hold our memories.” She reached into the small box in front of her and pulled out a folded piece of faded paper. Ma set it on the table and smoothed it open with care. There was a lace doily snuggled inside the paper. “You gave me this on our first Christmas together,” she said as she held the small piece of lace lovingly in her hands.
It was one of her most prized possessions.
“I remember.” Da’s soft chuckle was as warm and light as summer’s breeze. “We had nothing that year, barely a roof over our heads or potatoes in the root cellar.”
“And yet you found a way to buy this for me.” Ma still remembered how blessed she had felt when Da gave her the small piece of white lace interwoven with intricate purple flowers. The small piece of fabric was so delicate she often worried it would just disintegrate if she breathed on it too hard, but it had held up for decades.
“Lachlan was still in diapers and Neason was just a couple of weeks old. We put every spare penny into making their Christmas special and yet you made mine even better.”
Ma felt tears prickle her eyes when weathered but strong hands settled on her shoulders, giving her a gentle squeeze. The warm body of the man that had stood by her side for so many years pressed gently into her back.
“It’s just an old piece of cloth, woman.” There was a suspicious sheen in Da’s pale-green eyes as he turned Ma and wiped his thumbs over her wrinkled cheeks right under her eyelashes. “Didn’t cost me more than a couple of hours chopping wood for old man Walker.”
“That man had two sons that could have chopped wood for him.” Ma pointed a finger at Da, not in an angry manner, but just to make her point. Her Donnell had a soft spot whether he wanted to admit it or not. “He didn’t need you to do it.”
“No, maybe not.” Da’s smile was a beautiful as a sunrise. His eyes twinkled and were so full of love and affection that Ma felt like she could drown in them. “But he also had a wife. He knew exactly why I needed to earn a little extra money.”
When Donnell looked at her with that twinkle in his green eyes, Ma felt like her husband’s universe. He had been looking at her like that for nearly forty years. It had been the main deciding factor in her giving up a life of luxury back in Ireland and coming to the new world with barely a penny to their name.
“No one looks at me the way you do, Donnell Blaecleah.” Ma’s voice hitched, emotion tightening her throat. “No one has ever looked at me the way you do.”
Da let out a bark of rich laughter, a joyous sound that Ma had grown to adore over the years. “I fought the whole of Ireland to have you, Alani, me love. I would be very upset if someone else thought they could take you away from me.”
Ma closed her eyes as she leaned her head back against Da’s solid chest, savoring the moment for what it was—a slice of time when everything in her world was perfect. Her soul mate held her in his arms, her sons were happy with their own partners, and the next generation was alive and well and adored by everyone.
A shiver of awareness slid through Ma when Da’s fingers threaded through her graying hair. She was grateful that Da was one of those men not afraid to show his affections. She, as well as all of their sons, knew that Da loved them, in word and in deed.
“Do you miss Ireland, Alani?” The words were whispered almost as if Da was afraid of the answer although he had asked the same question a hundred times over the years. Ma always gave the same answer.
Maybe this time, she should tell him the honest truth.
“I miss my ma, Donnell. I always do around this time of year. Christmas was her favorite holiday. I miss watching her decorate the house, the smells that filled every room, the food, the sense of something bigger than us that seemed to take a hold of everyone.”
Ma tilted her head back so that she could look up into the pale-green eyes she had fallen for as a young girl of barely nineteen. “What I don’t miss is the way my father tried to run my life, to dictate my every move, right down to who I was to marry. I don’t miss feeling like I was a disappointment because I failed at something my father believed I should have mastered just because of the family I was born into. I don’t miss feeling like anything I did was never good enough or that everyone in my family felt they were better than everyone else because we had money and a family name that went back centuries.”
Ma drew in a quick breath so that she could continue before Da said anything. “The Blaecleah name is an old and proud one, just as old and proud as my maiden name. But I’d much rather be a Blaecleah than the name I was born with.”
The beginnings of a small smile curved up one corner of Ma’s lips as she smoothed her hands down Da’s chest. “There are things that I miss, Donnell, but I think the question you need to ask is if I regret coming to America with you and the answer is a resounding no. It will always be no. Marrying you was the best decision I ever made, one I have never regretted.”
As his thumb gently traced Alani’s lip, Da smiled that sweet gentle smile he gave her when it was just the two of them. “You are the one good thing that has happened to me in my life.”
Ma cocked an eyebrow. “What about your sons?”
“Without you, I would have no sons.”
Ma chuckled lightly. “Touché.”
“Because of you, I have six beautiful sons, all of whom have found that one person meant just for them.” Da’s head cocked to one side, a funny little smile on his face. “Well, except for Seamus. He found two people. But the point is—”
“The point is that we are lucky.”
Da chuckled. “We are Irish, Alani. We’re genetically predisposed to be lucky.”

ADULT EXCERPT
May the saddest day of your future be no worse than the happiest day of your past.
~ Irish Blessing ~

“Harder!” Lachlan squeezed his eyes shut as he dug his fingers into the sheets. He spread his knees and tilted his ass up even further into the air, needing the pounding Asa was giving his ass. No one fucked like his Asa. The man gave new meaning to the term ecstasy. No matter what Lachlan had asked for over the years, Asa provided it.
“So tight, Lany,” Asa groaned, the deep needy sound music to Lachlan’s ears.
Lachlan spread his legs farther apart as he rocked his ass back and up, wanting Asa to fuck him until he was unconscious. Lachlan’s fingers curled into the sheets as Asa hammered into him. It was raw, fast, and made Lachlan’s head swoon. He keened and mewled, begging his lover to take him harder.
Asa didn’t disappoint.
He moved faster and faster with each deep thrust, achingly deeper. Fingers dug into Lachlan’s hips as Asa switched his position, tagging Lachlan’s prostate on every damn stroke. Lachlan’s body tingled and buzzed, his heart beating faster as he felt an all-too-familiar tingling shoot up his spine.
Lachlan was getting close. He could feel his balls drawing up tight against his body. He knew he only had mere moments before he flew over the edge with abandon. His cries and whimpers filled the room, overshadowing their heaving panting. The harder Asa rammed into Lachlan, the louder his cries became. Sweat dripped down both of their bodies, the sounds of their flesh slapping together, mingling with their groans of pleasure.
“Harder, damn it,” Lachlan growled. “Fuck me like you mean it.”
He arched his body toward Asa as his orgasm roared up his spine and down to his groin, and then his cock exploded, wetting the bed with his seed. Lachlan cried out, his entire body throbbing with his release.
“Lachlan!” Asa shouted as he slammed into Lachlan’s ass, his fingers digging in so deeply that Lachlan knew he was going to have bruises.
Lachlan felt a series of short thrusts and one long one where Asa drove up into his ass and stayed there. Hot liquid filled his ass, each powerful spurt shooting against his sweet spot, making Lachlan’s vision dim as even more pleasure continued to weave its way through his body.
He rocked back and forth, bathing in the release that had had him hazy and sated. Little tremors rocked through him, prolonging his pleasure until Lachlan thought he was going to pass out.
He closed his eyes and laid his head down on the bed, unable to do anything but breathe, and even that was taking effort. He smiled weakly when he felt Asa plant a small kiss on his temple.
“Thank you, babe.”
Lachlan opened his eyes and grinned up at the man that had become his husband just a few years earlier. He leaned up and brushed a small kiss across Asa’s lips. His eyes twinkled with amusement as he replied, “My pleasure.”
Asa chuckled as he slid from Lachlan’s body and rolled to the side of the bed. He quickly went to the bathroom and then came back a moment later with a washrag to clean Lachlan up. After chucking the washcloth back into the bathroom, Asa sat on the side of the bed and reached down to thread his fingers with Lachlan’s.
“We need to get up, babe,” Asa said. “Da is waiting for us to help him with the cattle.”
Lachlan groaned and rolled over to bury his face in his pillow. He could lie all day in bed with his husband—and he wanted to. “Don’t wanna.”
“You’ve tried that excuse before and we ended up with a wet mattress after Da took the hose to you. I’d really prefer to keep this one dry.”
Lachlan smiled into his pillow and the smile grew wider when Asa’s hand came down on his ass. Lachlan pushed up, silently begging for more. He would never get enough of the gorgeous man. He loved having Asa’s hands anywhere on his body.

Heart-mate, MINE by N.J. Nielsen

Blurb:
Two lives--One destiny. When fate decides two people belong together, nothing can stand in its way. Liam Kantry and Carlo Bruenelli find themselves caught up in the madness of Christmas and taking care of a child as they discover the meaning of being true heart-mates.

Liam Kantry wants to be with the man he has loved his whole life, yet incessant gossip and innuendos have labelled him the pack whore—a point he has never disputed. Now the rumours have come back to bite him in the arse.

Carlo Bruenelli is waiting for his heart-mate; he's one of the pack who truly believes they really do exist. In his heart he wants it to be his best friend, only problem is he knows Liam doesn't believe in heart-mates. What will it take to change Liam's mind? And should he even try?

Christmas is drawing near, and between snowball fights and the inter-pack gathering, Liam and Carlo find themselves caught up in the excitement and obsessing over what their future holds. Especially when a small child forms a bond with them. They learn there is more out there than they ever dreamt was possible.

Can Liam and Carlo work around the newness of their own mating to protect someone who needs it most?

CONTENT ADVISORY: This work is a significantly expanded (almost tripled in length), re-edited re-release title.

Excerpt:
Everyone had a fear, and Carlo's was probably no different to anyone else's. His fear involved running into the love of his life, Liam Kantry, and being ignored completely. Liam often starred in Carlo's nightly dreams of who his heart-mate should look like, yet sadly Liam only ever looked at him like an annoying, dorky, younger brother--a brother you didn't want hanging around all the time. Usually, it was hard to avoid him since they belonged to the same pack. Thoughts like these had been plaguing him for the last month or so leading up to this special week.

The Moon Runner Pack had been chosen to host the inter-pack meet-and-greet on their lands where guests from other packs would be coming in hope of finding a mate. Most people didn't believe in heart-mates. Carlo was truly one of the few in the pack who actually believed heart-mates existed. Somewhere out there's the perfect person looking for me. A tingle of excitement surged through him at the mere possibility of it being true. I'm twenty-one. I'm finally old enough to attend the party. Let's hope he's here and just as eager to meet me. Wish it could be Liam, but wouldn't we have known by now if we were? Hopefully Christmas Day I'll have pushed aside my crush on Liam Kantry and I'll know whether or not my heart-mate is out there searching for me as well—that is, if he even comes to the gathering. My luck, he won't even bother turning up.

Man, he hoped he was wrong and his heart-mate existed in the here and now, waiting to meet him as well. Never once had he doubted that his future mate would be a male. Fate wouldn't be so cruel to pair him with a woman he could never really love. Being mated to a female wouldn't be fair to either of them. If it came down to his mate being someone who wasn't male, he'd simply explain everything to her and let her find someone else she could be happy with. Carlo had even heard that this year there were packs coming to attend from even farther afield than usual. This gathering also became the time new alliances were made between packs, where packs could ask another for help in any way. Bloodshed was frowned upon at these gatherings, but sometimes it became unavoidable—or so he'd been told.

The alpha had asked him, because it was his first time, to become involved this year by being seen at the meeting hall, not hiding away from the pack like he usually did. Apparently all members of the pack who had come of age and were eligible to attend were asked to help out. So here he was now, wet as all get-go—because he'd only moments before slipped and landed in a puddle as he tried to dodge a car on the street outside the hall. Dripping wet, he grumbled as he walked through the falling snow toward the last place he wanted to be—the pack town hall. Carlo hoped to avoid everything until the starting ceremony itself, but Darian and the alpha had nixed that thought early on. The plain truth was he didn't want to have to be anywhere he'd have to bear witness to Liam flirting with other people. Carlo was a coward, and he knew it. He wasn't disputing the fact at all. As he neared the building, the noise coming from within sounded muted, but still loud in a raucous kind of way.

Carlo waved to a couple leaving the crowded room as he entered. He didn't know them, but he thought it would be a polite and friendly gesture to the wolves who'd be arriving to stay with the Moon Runner pack over the next few days. He didn't even complain much when Sally Anne Meyers, the alpha's younger sister, made him strip out of his outer layers before she allowed him to step foot inside the door.

She'd joked, "If you were smarter, you'd strip in time to the music and make yourself a little money on the side." Her laughter sounded light, and Carlo knew she wasn't being mean. Being twenty-one herself, she probably also found herself being forced to be sociable. Unlike him, Sally Anne actually liked being the centre of attention, especially if it garnered the interest of a certain pack member. According to Marcus, the pack gossip, Sally Anne had set her sights on Wade Michelson this year. She'd chosen him as her mate and she'd do anything to get what she wanted.

"The only problem is they'd make me pay the money back with interest once they saw me naked," he replied, snickering before he handed her the wet clothes.

"Go sit by the fire and I'll call your mum to bring you some dry clothes. We wouldn't want all your lovely bits and pieces to fall off, now would we?"

What the fuck? Is she flirting with me? "Are you trying to get my arse beat? If you keep that talk up, you'll make Wade crazy jealous and he'll come after me."

"Hah! That big galoot wouldn't know which end faced up if someone didn't tell him." There seemed to be no heat in her words.

"I thought you were determined to be his mate?" Carlo asked, curious as he saw the glint of something in her eye.

She waved him away. "He's mine. He just doesn't know it yet. His days of sleeping around are over." She sniffed haughtily then burst out laughing. "Go on. Go warm up and I'll get you some dry clothes. I saw Liam in here earlier--not sure if he's still here though."

He gave her one last smile before he did as told. "Thank you." He wasn't sure if he thanked her for calling his mum or for letting him know Liam Kantry sat in the hall talking with friends.

The sounds of carols playing through the speakers, combined with happy laughter ringing out were enough to get even the most miserable person into the Christmas spirit. The interior walls had been transformed from their usual drab wooden bareness to having an array of colours splashed across them. The effect was kind of stunning. Whoever had decorated this year had taste.

With all the festivities going on around him, Carlo couldn't have stopped smiling even if he'd wanted to. He actually loved this time of year--always had. The fact remained he loved everything about Christmas, from the addictive aroma of the baked goods to the scent of the pine trees filling the air, but most of all he loved the feeling of family and everyone being together.

His love of everything Christmas started the year his father gave him his very own sled. That year he'd met Liam Kantry for the first time. He'd also met Liam's brothers Marcus and Theo. They'd taken turns sharing his sled while riding down the hills out on the back of the pack lands. The day seemed to rush by, none of them coming in until August Kantry, the boys' father, had come looking for them. On the way home, he'd given them all a lecture on what were safe and unsafe times to stay out playing when their parents were sitting at home and waiting for them.

Christmas was just around the corner and his family was getting ready to celebrate in style. His mother was known by many as a baking fiend when it came to roasts, but no one in the pack came even close to beating Mary Kantry when it came to baking Christmas goodies. She had become a legend among the pack, especially for her Christmas bread. Hell, even just the thought of it had Carlo's mouth watering. His thoughts came back to the present when he heard an all too familiar voice. Oh great, so Liam really is still here—yippee... not!
